Thought for the day: When you see a feather, think of an Angel.

 My name is Sean Christopher Byrne (pronounced burn).

I am a creative writer, southern Irish born, and I live now in Northern Ireland. My writing is eclectic and deeply inspired by the image of the Holy Grail.

The main theme of all my work is initiation. I write in various ‘modes’: narrative prose, faction, channelling, poetry, essays, articles, etc. I am particularly interested in faction. I also give lectures, talks, workshops, etc.

The Holy Grail can be understood in various ways. Although most people will have heard of the Holy Grail, few have a realistic or credible image of it.

This is because the Holy Grail is a most mysterious object. It actually contains a great secret about the spiritual life of human beings. But, as with all secrets, it is not easy to discover. You have to work at it. Another way of saying this is that you have to consciously start out on a journey. To seek the Grail is to begin a kind of life adventure or Quest. It is, moreover, a Quest that is open to everyone. For, an important aspect of ‘the secret’ of the Holy Grail, and one that can be openly stated, is that it is a holistic and unifying symbol; it is a sign of the universal Spirit of mankind.

When used as a meditative image, the Holy Grail proves to be one of the best suited to our time. All of this becomes clear to anyone who takes up the ‘matter of the Grail’. The great modern spiritual teacher, Rudolf Steiner, taught a science of the spirit which he also called 'Grail science'.

The Holy Grail is at the centre of my life. I find that its wisdom is sublime and wonderful almost beyond description. It stimulates, develops and exalts the imagination in a most pure and holistic way. It refines and uplifts my sense of beauty almost to a divine degree. I believe it can do the same for you. 

The Grail does not merely represent an intellectual kind of knowledge; it represents in fact an ancient wisdom. This is the wisdom of the soul, the wisdom of Sophia. It is at one and the same time magical, mystical and practical.

However, just because of its mystical and magical properties, knowledge of the Holy Grail has long been suppressed in Christianity. I have explored this problem historically in my book To Hell or to Rome! and imaginatively in my faction book Gnosis! It is a long history of repression. However, all this is now giving way to a new light. A great new holistic/healing movement is under way in the world.

When you know its secret, you know also that the source of this renewal is actually the Holy Grail itself. It may be invisible or unbelievable to the uninitiated.  But when you have eyes to see it you know that the Holy Grail is the vessel of healing and sharing par excellence. People are realizing more and more that not just the body, but the soul also needs nourishment. The Holy Grail contains the food of life in this fullest sense.

My method of Grail research and spiritual development is based on what are known as the Four Hallows of the Holy Grail which are intimately related to what are known as the 'Four Treasures of Ireland'.

I have only recently started this site. But I am, as they say in Ireland, ‘getting on a bit’ and do not take easily to staring at the computer screen for long periods!  However, my computers skills and interest in this site are sufficient to ensure that it will serve, to some degree at any rate, my basic intention which is, as the name of the site implies, to form a kind of Grail School. What I mean by this is that I intend to stimulate or cultivate, through interdependent group-activity, a ‘school of thought’ regarding the Grail. And I do not mean thought that is directed simply towards an intellectual or purely historical interest in the Grail. The Grail should be the focus for developing thinking along spiritual lines. If you go to The Four Hallows you will get a good idea of my intention here.

As I say, the site is relatively new. It is still quite basic. It can for instance include a chatroom, a blog, etc. There are lots of possibilities. My hopes are high, but I am first searching for a response. Therefore, how this site will develop is largely up to you!

The site is intended as a social networking tool for those who wish to actively take up this most interesting, exciting, and holistic subject, or have already, as it were, taken some steps ‘along the path’ and want encouragement and direction as to how to proceed.
